The last supper...with my cousins.

Unfortunately, Mick and Linda have to return to their home in Rowlands Castle, England today. We've had a wonderful week together despite less than stellar weather. To celebrate our last evening, we shared a bottle of crisp prosecco for "happy hour" in our apartment before walking to a lovely little restaurant called la mise au Verre. Keith had heard about this one on a blog site by a woman named Rosa Jackson who gives market tours and cooking classes here in Nice. As a matter of fact, we are taking one of her classes tomorrow.... but more about that in a subsequent blog.

The restaurant was small and intimate and the food and drink were excellent. Greg and I began with a flute of a delightful champagne. We shared it with the others which now in retrospect might not have been a good idea given the colds and sore throats going around. That was followed by a shared platter of shaved parma ham and hearty rye bread.
For our plats, Linda and I had the veal.
Keith and Greg chose the fish.
Mick, the vegetarian, really enjoyed his eggs and salad.
The wine list was extensive and the server made several recommendations. We settled on this excellent bottle of Côtes-du-Rhône and were not disappointed with our choice.
Santé!
For dessert, Greg ordered the assorted cheese plate and the rest had the pear tart with pear ice cream. Once again, we shared bits of our meals so that we could all try the various dishes. We thought that the pear tart that Brian makes is superior to this one, but the ice cream was superb.
Along the way, Brian and Mick have picked up dreadful colds and Keith came down with a sore throat this morning. Brian was feeling so poorly that he was unable to join us at the restaurant.  I will be the only one going to school today - the others will stay home in bed.

Thank you for coming to visit us and thank you for a great week. Next time, we hope to see you in Canada!
